Liverpool will have to fight off competition for major signings this summer.
Since Arne Slot took over the reds last year, the club have only signed two players for the first team. Federico Chiesa joined on a cut-price deal from Juventus, while Giorgio Mamardashvili, who was signed from Valencia, was sent out on loan. The lack of additions were part of the reason why no one tipped the club to compete this season.
However, Slot exceeded all expectations despite his limited squad. Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League, 15-points above Arsenal. The reds also have their first cup final of the season this weekend. Arne Slot could lift his first trophy in charge in the League Cup final against Newcastle.
Liverpool suffered an exit in the Champions League midweek when they lost to Paris Saint-Germain.

The reds were outplayed and outmatched over two legs despite winning the first tie in Paris. The French side dominated a week ago, but a late winner from Harvey Elliot won the game. PSG also set the tone at Anfield, threatening early and scoring first. They were in control of the game for the whole of regulation time, and eventually won on penalties. Liverpool lost on Tuesday because they lacked quality compared to the Ligue 1 side. While PSG were able to call on big money signings like Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the reds called on Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo.
Liverpool’s situation will change ahead of next season. The club is pursuing multiple targets as they seek to revamp the squad. Fabrizio Romano reported that the reds are in the market for a new defender, with Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen on their radar. Antonee Robinson recently rubbished reports of a move to Anfield.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal have joined the race for the young defender. Huijsen is set to leave his club this summer, with a reported £50million release clause. Liverpool may jump at the chance to sign the 19-year old, with the uncertain futures of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Reds need to move fast for Huijsen
Liverpool could lose up to three starters in their backline ahead of next season. The club now needs to act fast and secure replacements early in the window. The reds need to do everything possible to sign quality prospects like Huijsen when they are available on the market.
