Arsenal admit defeat in race for Liverpool target

The path has been cleared for this Liverpool signing.

Liverpool suffered a shock defeat last weekend in the Premier League. Arne Slot’s side failed to extend their lead on top of the table. Fortunately, Arsenal also dropped points against Everton, which meant the reds still hold an 11-point lead. With seven games to go, Liverpool look set to lift another Premier League title within the last five years.

Slot continues to defy the odds this season. With the players and squad he came to meet, many decided that the ex-Feyenoord coach would not be ready to compete with Liverpool. A few bad results before the international break meant the reds could not win the treble this season.

It was a huge blow for the club, as they were unlucky in the penalty shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain, and failed to show up against Newcastle in the League Cup final.

One thing that has been made clear this season has been the need for a true striker. Arne Slot has been able to plug multiple gaps in the team with great tactics and player management, however, the number nine role still needs an upgrade. Slot has decided to use Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota ahead of Darwin Nunez this season. The Uruguayan is set to leave Anfield this summer, after losing his place in the first team. Nunez has recently been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool are the front runners for Alexander Isak this summer. The Newcastle striker is expected to be the priority target for the reds. This week, TBR Football have revealed that Arsenal have taken a step back in their pursuit of Isak, as they believe the striker has his sights set on a move to Anfield.

Any club willing to sign the 25-year old this summer will have a fight on their hands, as Newcastle Chief Executive Darren Eales is adamant that they will not sell key players:

“We’re in a position now, where because we were able to move a couple of players in January that weren’t really impacting on minutes on the pitch, we’ve got that wish and desire to keep our key players.”

The Magpies want over 150million for the Swedish international this summer. Isak has 20 Premier League goals this season.
