Arne Slot ‘leading’ Liverpool’s pursuit of €80m midfielder previously at Feyenoord

Arne Slot believes Liverpool has got pretty good backups for the regulars

Liverpool are expected to spend big in the upcoming transfer windows to back Arne Slot after an underwhelming market in the summer.

Slot has made a big impact since becoming the Liverpool manager in the summer and has taken them to the summit of the league table after seven Premier League games.

The Dutchman’s work becomes even more impressive when we consider the kind of lacklustre transfer window the club had last summer.

Liverpool went into the market with the idea of bringing in an elite defensive midfielder but once Martin Zubimendi declined their offer, the Reds didn’t have a fall-back option.

Slot’s eye for talent led to the Liverpool manager turning Ryan Gravenberch into a defensive midfielder and the Dutchman has been the player of the season for the Reds so far.

Liverpool are keen to rectify the errors they made in the summer and are looking at several midfield options for the next transfer windows.

Arne Slot is leading the chase for a midfielder he had at Feyenoord

Orkun Kokcu has been mightily impressive for Benfica this season and bigger clubs are taking note of his performances in Portugal.

According to the Portuguese daily Record, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on the player and are fixated on scouting him rigorously.

It has been claimed that Liverpool scouts were present to watch Kokcu in action in Benfica’s 4-0 Champions League victory against Atletico Madrid last week.

Liverpool manager Slot had him at Feyenoord previously and is leading Liverpool’s pursuit of the midfielder.

He is keen to reunite with Kokcu at Anfield and is pushing the Reds to sign him in the near future.

Benfica signed him from Feyenoord for a deal worth €30m last year and he has a contract until 2028 with the club.

He has a €150m release clause in his contract and Benfica are unlikely to listen to offers below the €80m mark for the midfielder.
