Manchester United legend impressed with how Arne Slot handled ‘big pressure’ at Liverpool

Arne Slot has made an instant impact at Liverpool since his arrival in the summer and has forced his critics to hit humble pie at the start of the season.

The Dutchman was a left-field choice from Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season and many were worried that he hasn’t had much top-level experience.

His Feyenoord team were impressive but Erik ten Hag at Manchester United had already proven that success in the Netherlands was no guarantee for similar achievements in England and the former Ajax boss had won more trophies than Slot in his homeland.

However, after seven games in the Premier League season, Liverpool are at the summit of the Premier League table and Slot has left his stamp on the team.

Players such as Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate have found a new lease of life at Anfield under the new manager and he has quickly managed to make sure the team play his style of football.

Wayne Rooney picks Liverpool as the most impressive team in the Premier League team this season

The former Manchester United striker picked Liverpool when he was asked which team impressed him the most this season.

Rooney pointed out that replacing Jurgen Klopp was always going to be challenging and any manager coming in would have had to deal with the big pressure of expectations.

He has been impressed with the way Slot has handled that pressure since arriving at Anfield and has managed to turn Liverpool into a more solid unit in a short period.

“I’d go Liverpool”, Rooney said on the Stick to Football.

“With the manager coming in after Klopp, that was obviously big pressure, but they look more solid, they have a good solid base and [Slot] comes across well.”

Liverpool have looked good in attack under Slot but their defensive displays have taken them to the top of the table at the start of the season.

The Reds have the meanest defence in the league, conceding just two goals in the first seven games.
