Liverpool are no strangers to recruiting elite young players to develop at the club.
One of their academy graduates is Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is considered one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League era. The 26-year old’s time at the club is reportedly coming to an end as he is said to have a contract offer from Real Madrid.
Liverpool have had to deal with rumours since the start of the season. Three of their biggest players are yet to sign new deals, and could leave in the summer. On the field, this Liverpool side have been fantastic under Arne Slot.
The Dutch coach has guided the team to the top of the Premier League with a nine-point lead and a game in hand. Liverpool progressed to the knockout round of the Champions League with the best record in the group phase.

Liverpool have had success with recruiting young players in the past. The Reds signed Harvey Elliot for £1.5 million, a record fee at the time. Elliot has now become an integral part of the first team, and the Reds want to see him commit to a long-term future at Anfield.
The Reds also picked up Rio Ngumoha last summer. Liverpool snapped up the highly rated England U17 star from Chelsea. Now, the club are reportedly pursuing Red Star Belgrade wonderkid Andrija Maksimovic. The 17-year old has burst onto the scene this season, and was a regular in Red Star’s Champions League campaign.
Maksimovic’s agent, Zoran Stojadinovic, has listed a few clubs interested in the Serbian star:
“It’s no secret, there are some [offers].
“Liverpool are among them, Aston Villa, Leipzig and Atletico Madrid so all the clubs from the top leagues have shown serious interest.
”And then we get to whether the price is €12million [£10m] or €20m [£16.7m], so they say ‘let’s see if it’s €20m by June.”
Maksimovic has two goals and two assists in the Serbian SuperLiga this season. He was named in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2024.
“If the price was €10m [£8.4m] and he could go, Maksimovic would have already been sold.”
Would Maksimovic be a good signing?
Liverpool have made it clear that they will do big business in the summer. If the club fail to resolve the contract issues, they would need two defenders and an attacker in the summer window. Arne Slot would ideally be looking for players to come in and start immediately, so a move for the Serbian youngster looks unlikely. But for a player of that talent, Liverpool could take a chance with such an affordable fee.
