Liverpool are interested in bringing this Bundesliga star as a potential replacement for Virgil Van Djik. The Reds are in the market to bolster their backline with injuries and potential outgoings hampering their plans.
The signing of Giovanni Leoni was to ease the load on the club’s backline. But things didn’t go as planned with the Italian suffering an ACL tear in his debut game. The 18-year old is currently ruled out until the end of the season.
Ibrahima Konate is also coming to the end of his contract. His current deal ends at the end of the season. With no extension in sight, the Frenchman is likely making his way out of the Premier League. Real Madrid are frontrunners to secure his signature.
The Reds want to be ahead of the curve and secure this star defender in the transfer market.

Liverpool have Virgil Van Djik replacement on mind

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck is a prime target for Liverpool. According to German outlet Bild, the defender has few potential suitors.
The 25-year-old’s deal at the Westfalenstadion expires in 2027 and Dortmund are aiming for an expansion. But there has been no breakthrough yet. If the talks fall through several clubs including Liverpool and Bayern Munich will be prime contenders to buy the player.
The Premier League champions see Schlotterbeck as a successor to captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contract also expires in 2027 when he will be 36.
Guehi still in the picture
The transfer of Marc Guehi fell through at the last moment on deadline day. Although Anfield will likely renew its interest in the player in January. Guehi’s contract expires at the end of the season and Crystal Palace will want to sell him earlier rather than letting him go for free.
But there has also been reports of interest from other clubs including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Reds too are considering other options. So now it is just a waiting game to see where the Frenchman ends up.
