In the past few of years, Liverpool have made a habit of luring away talented young players from Man City’s academy. A clear distinct pathway to the senior team is often the clincher in these cases.
Alfie Dooley is one such talented prospect. The goalkeeper confirmed his signing for the Merseyside club with a post on Instagram. The 15-year old had joined City back in 2016 as an Under-6 prospect.
After leaving the blue half of Manchester at the end of last season, he signed with the current Premier League champions.
Second switch this season
Earlier this year, Lucas Alford made his way to Anfield to link-up with the club’s U15 side. Last season another Lucas called Lucas Clarke made the same switch. Clarke now plays for the U18 side.
With Liverpool sitting at the top of English football, such signings are expected to be a bit of a regularity. Players will always want to sign for a big club and potentially play for a side fighting for major trophies.
It not only gives them opportunity to be at the best club, but also to rub shoulders with top players in football.
Liverpool who are currently second in the table resume their Premier League commitments by welcoming Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday. Meanwhile Manchester City host Everton on Saturday.
