The first Merseyside Derby of the season ended on a positive note for Slot and Co. Despite having struggled in the second half, Liverpool managed to hold onto the one-goal lead to bag three points in the end.
Slot’s Reds had become infamous for losing leads easily this season. However, the Merseyside Derby was a fresh air as the team held on despite a tiring week.
Manchester United legend Gary Neville compared the current squad to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United despite the notorious lead giveaways.
“… they’ve got that thing at the moment, haven’t they? That thing that maybe at times we [United] used to have, City have had it. Teams that win leagues have it”, Neville told Sky Sports.
The season looks bright for Arne Slot, but a tiring week doesn’t warrant a few rest days, unfortunately. Following the pressure, the Dutchman has decided to drop five Liverpool players tomorrow against Southampton.
“The good thing is I do have the options to rotate throughout the week and the ones that played three times 90 are Virgil, Ibou, Mo, Ryan and Dom, the ones that are used to this intensity at this level, and again they showed up really good”, Slot told the press.

Arne Slot faces Everton criticism
Despite a good show at Anfield against Everton, David Moyes didn’t like referee Darren England’s injury-time decision. The Toffees were leading in aggressiveness in the second half, but Idrissa Gueye could only conjure up one for the Blues.
Three minutes were added to the clock, but both Moyes and Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish thought the time wasn’t justified.
The Evertonian duo expected more minutes as they accused Slot’s men of wasting time during the second half. The Reds gaffer has now given his verdict on the issue.
“A lot has been said about the added time against Everton, but I would have loved to play 34 seconds more because we were in a five-v-two situation at that moment. Now that tells you, I think, all about the mentality we have, always wanting to score a goal.”
“The three minutes were completely correct because there were only three moments where a substitution was made. There was no time-wasting because that’s not what we do, and there was no treatment of injuries; one goal scored.”
“Then you come to three. Where in many other games when we need a goal, there’s a lot, a lot, a lot of time-wasting going on, I can tell you”, Slot told the press.
