Virgil Van Dijk is yet to decide his future at Anfield.
The Liverpool captain has a few months left on his contract, which expires this summer. Since the season began there has been a whole lot of speculation surrounding him and other teammates. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah also have their contracts up at the end of the season, and as it stands, it is likely all three players leave Anfield this summer.
Van Dijk has been one of Liverpool’s best performers this season. The club captain has been ever present, and continues to anchor one of the best defences in Europe. Liverpool are currently the second best defensive side in the Premier League, and boasted the third best record in the Champions League group phase.
With Liverpool planning a big summer transfer window, a lot of changes will be made ahead of next season.

Virgil Van Dijk hints at Barcelona future

Van Dijk is currently the second highest paid player at Liverpool, and if he does decide to remain at the club, he will receive a pay rise. The defender has not made his future clear over the course of the season, and even recently mentioned that no one knows where his next move lies. Multiple clubs are expected to be in the race for the 33-year old.
Netherlands played Spain in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday night. Both sides played to a 2-2 draw on the night. After the game, Van Dijk spoke highly of FC Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi. The Liverpool captain has been linked with a move to the La Liga side in the past few months.
“I think he’s a huge talent, a special player. At 18, as you said, and playing at this level, it’s already impressive. He’s outstanding,” he told Mundo Deportivo (via Barca Blaugranes).
“It’s good to see him play. It’s not the typical Barcelona style because Pau likes to make long passes too, a lot, and he’s good at it. And it’s something I like to do too.
“I was sad for him because he obviously got injured, but I think he’s a great talent and we’re looking at a player with a bright future.”
Still too early to determine Liverpool star’s future
There are a few months left till the end of the season. No one knows what may happen between now and the end of the campaign. Liverpool still have the Premier League title in their grasp. The club have it all to do to convince the 33-year old to stay beyond next season.
Ex-Liverpool star Robbie Fowler believes Van Dijk will not be at the club when next season begins.
