Liverpool are gearing up for a huge summer.
After successive losses to Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain last week, the reds hopes of a treble were shattered. Arne Slot’s side looked sluggish and lacked intensity in both games. The fact that the Liverpool boss could not look to the bench was very worrying.
When Mohamed Salah was isolated in both games, no other attacking player stepped up. The lack in quality has prompted Richard Hughes to start work in identifying transfer targets before the end of the campaign.
Liverpool now have only the Premier League to focus on for the rest of the season.

Liverpool make inquiry about Champions League star

Liverpool are planning a revamp of the current first team squad. And this could start up top in attack. Multiple reports have indicated that the reds will sign a striker this summer. With Darwin Nunez on his way out of the club, Alexander Isak and most recently, Liam Delap have been eyed as upgrades.
Arne Slot is also said not to be a fan of the current attacking options outside Mohamed Salah. Liverpool could see a clear out, with Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez made available when the window opens.
The reds have found an ideal target for their attack. According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are set to make an inquiry for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons. The Dutch international has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga this summer, with the club slapping an €80million price tag on him. Liverpool will take a closer look at the 21-year before deciding if they will make a move.
Simons is currently on international duty with The Netherlands this week.
Do the reds need Xavi Simons?
It is an opinion that may split the fanbase down the middle. For his fit in the Liverpool team, he is perfect and ticks all the boxes. Arne Slot has stated his preference for attackers who can fit in various roles. This is exactly what Xavi Simons provides. He can play in attack and midfield roles while remaining productive; Simons has 30 goal involvements in 50 Bundesliga games with RB Leipzig.
On the other hand, his transfer fee is a problem. For €80million, Liverpool can surely find cheaper alternatives in the market with more experience. A lot of people forget that Xavi Simons is just 21 years old with 91 league games over five seasons. Spending that kind of money on the likes of a Bryan Mbeumo or a Matheus Cunha would be better than signing Simons.
However, one thing remains; Liverpool need quality in attack heading into next season.
