Arne Slot has had a great debut season at Anfield.
The Dutch coach took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer. Klopp left Liverpool after almost a decade in charge, winning almost every trophy available. The reds lifted the League Cup in his final year in charge. Before the season began, no one really gave Slot a chance.
Fans and pundits alike expected the club to regress after years of success under Jurgen Klopp. So far, Arne Slot has brought a more possession-oriented style to the club. This has brought the best out of some players this season. The likes of Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch are having their best campaigns since arriving in England.
Liverpool could end Slot’s first season in charge with a treble. The reds have the chance to win their first trophy of the season in the League Cup final against Newcastle later this month.

Arne Slot makes huge transfer decision

Liverpool have made two permanent first team signings since Slot arrived. Federico Chiesa joined from Juventus, and Giorgi Mamardashvili signed from Valencia. The Georgian keeper was sent back out on loan for the rest of the campaign. So far, Slot has not had any major say in Liverpool’s transfer deals. In January, the reds boss revealed that he worked with Richard Hughes to decide which players to loan out.
All signs point to Slot having a bigger say in Liverpool’s transfer dealings this summer. The reds plan to make major changes to the team before next season. Slot looks like he has made his first major decision. According to Football Insider, the Liverpool boss has decided Diogo Jota is not part of his long term plans.
A combination of factors have played a part in this decision. Firstly, Liverpool are planning to sign a first choice striker in the summer. So the club is looking to move Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota to raise funds. The club are also not pleased with Jota’s availability. The Portuguese forward has missed 15 games across all competitions this season. Arsenal are interested in signing Jota this summer, according to reports.
Time to move on from Jota
Diogo Jota has been an extremely important part of the Liverpool squad for the past few seasons. However, he has increasingly become unreliable as the years went by. He has missed 33 games over the past two seasons. Liverpool could use the funds from Jota’s sale to buy a new attacker.
