Liverpool delay contract talks

Since Arne Slot took over, some players at the club have been transformed. Last year, a few new signings found it difficult to adapt to the Premier League. In Arne Slot’s new possession-based system, some players have been able to show an improvement in their game. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch have all been great performers in this campaign. Trent has bounced back from an underwhelming season last year. Cody Gakpo is playing some of his best football since he arrived in England. Ryan Gravenberch is firmly in the running for Premier League Player of the Season.
Luis Diaz is also another player who has seen drastic improvement. The Colombian scored eight league goals last season, and he already has nine this year with 13 games to go. Slot has trusted him as the club’s striker this season, allowing him more freedom on the pitch. Diaz has been linked with a move away from Anfield since last year. The 28-year old was reportedly being offered to Barcelona in a swap deal for Frenkie de Jong.
Graeme Bailey reports that Luis Diaz’s representatives are ready to begin talks over a new deal. However, Liverpool are not in any hurry to finalize a contract. Diaz has two years left on his current deal. The reds are intent on getting Diaz to sign a new contract. The club want to handle the situations involving Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk first.
Reds must not wait to resolve issues
As it stands, over six first team stars have their contracts expiring in the next 24 months. Liverpool cannot stand to lose them all. The current transfer market is difficult to navigate as it stands. The futures of the best players at the club need to be resolved at the end of this season.
