£70m centre-back to decide his future in 2025 amid interest from Liverpool and Newcastle

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has been one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League, with clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United vying for his signature during the summer.

Despite the heavy interest, Guehi opted to remain at Selhurst Park. However, according to Caught Offside*, the English international plans to make a decision about his future in 2025.

Guehi’s development at Crystal Palace has been remarkable, with regular first-team action helping him establish himself as one of the top defenders in the league.

After a difficult start to his career at Chelsea, his move to Palace provided him with the platform to thrive.

His consistent performances not only secured his place in the England national team but also caught the attention of some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Stellar form and continued interest from top clubs

His performances have kept him on the radar of Liverpool and Newcastle United, both of whom are still interested in bringing him in as a key part of their defenses.

Newcastle, in particular, made a strong push for Guehi’s signature during the summer transfer window, with Eddie Howe’s side submitting multiple bids in hopes of securing the centre-back.

However, Crystal Palace stood firm on their £70 million asking price, which Newcastle were unwilling to meet. Despite this, the Magpies are expected to reignite their pursuit next summer.

Liverpool, too, have kept a close eye on Guehi. With Virgil van Dijk nearing the final phase of his career, the Reds are in need of a long-term replacement.

While van Dijk’s contract is set to expire next summer, there is uncertainty about whether the Dutchman will sign a new deal.

Even if he does, at 33 years old, his time at the top level is limited, making Guehi an attractive option for the Merseyside club as they plan for the future.

A 2025 decision and transfer possibilities

While Guehi is not forcing a move, he is open to considering his options in 2025. By then, he will have just one year left on his contract with Crystal Palace, potentially making the transfer process smoother.

Although he will still command a significant transfer fee, clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle may find negotiations easier with Palace as his contract winds down.

As Guehi continues to impress in the Premier League, it’s clear that his future remains a major talking point.

Whether he stays at Crystal Palace or moves to a top club, his decision in 2025 will undoubtedly be one of the most closely watched developments in English football.
