Luis Diaz scored 13 Premier League goals in the recently concluded season and was Liverpool’s second most productive forward behind Mo Salah.

Arne Slot wants to hold on to the player, who has two years left on his contract, and the Reds are in discussions over a new deal with his representatives.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness, Diaz will not be signing a new contract with Liverpool as long as he has a chance to join Barcelona this summer.

He has suitors in Saudi Arabia, who can afford Liverpool’s £72m asking price, but the player’s preference is to join the Catalan giants ahead of next season.

Barcelona are wary of some dressing room rancour if Diaz joins, but remain interested in getting their hands on the winger this summer.

However, there are question marks over whether they will be able to afford the big fee Liverpool are demanding for him.
