Jurgen Klopp sees Leicester City’s young box to box midfielder Youri Tielemans as the perfect player to replace Georginio Wijnaldum.
According to the Daily Mail, “His presence in the middle of the park has caught the attention of several Premier League giants this summer but it is Liverpool who are hoping to acquire his signature.”
Charlotte Daly reports for the Mail that Klopp sees the 24-year-old as the perfect replacement for Wijnaldum due to his ability to control the game.
Of Liverpool’s midfield targets this summer, Tielemans is arguably the most fanciful.
Leicester have grown into masters of the transfer game and after finessing deals to sign Patson Daka and Boubakary Soumare for bargain prices, they would demand massive fees for their own players.
According to Transfermarkt, Tielemans is worth a fee in the region of £50million but the Foxes would likely demand closer to £70million.
A claim was previously made by Daniel Nielson that Liverpool were in talks over a deal to sign the no.8 and that personal terms would not be an issue.
That may well have been the case – as wages would never have been the obstacle but if the Reds are to sign Tielemans, they are going to have to pay a massive fee.
And that just seems unlikely.
Liverpool are yet to take another step in the transfer market as far as new signings are concerned since they signed Ibrahima Konate.
The Frenchman has impressed in pre-season but as the 14th of August and the new Premier League season draws nearer, fans grow more and more impatient.
As Liverpool shift more of their deadwood, we should expect to see more movement on the new signings front.
