Liverpool bid worth £40M would be accepted – Reds have already made offer so skillful star could join soon

Yeremi Pino

Liverpool could sign Villarreal star Yeremy Pino this month if a report from Spain is accurate.

The Reds should really be allocating their available funds to a midfield signing but Liverpool have reportedly made a £40M bid for Pino.

According to Xavi Jorquera, Arsenal & Liverpool have both put an offer of €40M on the table for the Villarreal winger, however, they state the Spanish side wants €60M.

AS reports a bid in the region of £34M-£42M would be accepted, potentially making Pino the club’s most expensive sale ever.

As George Priestman covered already today, Pino is statistically an ideal fit for Jurgen Klopp’s side and ranks in the 99th percentile for shots on target (%), average shot distance, blocks, passes blocked and shots blocked.

He’s a very different profile of player compared to what Klopp already has at his disposal but that’s not a bad thing.

At 19, Pino has been lighting up La Liga, scoring 7 goals and assisting 4 in 1,685 minutes last season but it was his link-up play and technical quality that caught my eye.

Liverpool lack depth on the wings with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah the only natural wingers at the club but despite the reports, I don’t expect Klopp to sign Pino.

Up until this weekend, I didn’t believe that Liverpool would make a signing even if I thought it possible but after Thiago’s hamstring injury, I can’t see how the Reds can justify not signing a new midfielder.

It would border on irresponsible not to bring in someone like Matheus Nunes this summer even if they plan on signing Jude Bellingham in 2023.

The Portuguese midfielder seems tailormade for Klopp’s side as he has the strength and tackling ability to be very effective in the press while he also has the creativity, vision and passing ability to make a difference in transition and against low block defences.
