Worrying development in Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga

The Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga has continued to churn out stories as Liverpool struggle to tie him down to a new contract. The defender was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid but even though he was not on the pitch, the 26-year-old is still grabbing the headlines.

On Wednesday night, Liverpool produced a masterclass performance to beat Real Madrid at Anfield. Arne Slot’s team are currently being hailed as the best side in Europe.

However, matters off the pitch are still grabbing the headlines as Liverpool are still to tie down Alexander-Arnold to a new deal and he could still leave on a free transfer next summer.

The defender watched from the bench as Liverpool beat the side that he is being tipped to join on a free transfer and provided evidence to the player why he should commit his future to Anfield.

But a new deal is still not in place and Real Madrid are pushing to convince the player to move to the Spanish capital at the end of the season on a free transfer.

Real Madrid have employed a full charm offensive to lure Alexander-Arnold to Spain and the role of Jude Bellingham is expected to be key in their strategy.

The Trent Alexander-Arnold contract saga: The Bellingham offensive

The Real Madrid midfielder is a close friend of Alexander-Arnold and is often seen together when they are on international duty for England.

The former Dortmund man is a star at Real Madrid and the club hope that his friend’s success will convince Alexander-Arnold to move to Spain in the summer.

Bellingham was up to something following the game last night and was seen waiting for Alexander-Arnold outside to Liverpool dressing room.

He wanted Alexander-Arnold’s shirt and since the defender didn’t play, the Real Madrid star didn’t get the chance to swap shirts on the pitch.

The midfielder was seen handing over his shirt to Ryan Gravenberch and the Dutchman came out of the dressing room to give Alexander-Arnold’s jersey to Bellingham.

The incident showed how close the two are as friends and their relationship could play a pivotal role if Real Madrid are to sign the right-back next summer on a free transfer.
