Virgil Van Dijk will listen to Liverpool offer after €20M-a-year deal

The contract situations at Liverpool continue to dominate the headlines.

With a few months left till the end of the season, the reds are still in talks with their best players. Liverpool are still fighting to keep Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk at Anfield. All three are out of contract in the summer, and it is very likely they all leave.

It would be a shame for the club, as the trio have played a huge part in the on field success this season. Mohamed Salah has over 40 league goal involvements in all competitions this season. Trent has rediscovered his form after an underwhelming campaign last year.

Virgil Van Dijk continues to be the solid foundation for the team this season. The defender has been immense and has guided Liverpool to one of the best defensive records in Europe. At 33-years old, Van Dijk is still at the top of his game. There is no doubt the Dutch international will have his pick of teams to sign with when the season ends. His contract situation remains up in the air. A few weeks back, he rubbished reports of signing any contract extension, giving fans a lot to worry about.

The Liverpool captain even repeated his stance recently:

“I still have no idea at the moment, genuinely,” revealed the 33-year-old Reds captain, whose contract expires at the end of the season. “At the moment, I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes, but that is about it.”

However, there could be a new development. Ben Jacobs has reported that Virgil Van Dijk will give priority to Liverpool this summer. The 33-year old is currently not in talks with any other clubs, and wants to give the Anfield club the chance to convince him to extend his stay. This past week, it was reported that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are preparing a €20million a year deal for the Dutchman.

Reds have a major advantage now

Because Van Dijk has given his current club the kind courtesy, Liverpool must not pass up this opportunity. The reds get to offer him a deal before any other club has the chance to. Club officials need to move fast and tie down the defender for the near future.
