Liverpool might be handed a huge boost ahead of this summer.
The reds are set to lose three players when their current deals expire at the end of the season. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold could all depart in the next window. The trio have been pivotal to the club’s success this season. They have formed the backbone on which Arne Slot has used to transform the team.
This season, Liverpool have the best attack and second best defence in the Premier League. Van Dijk has anchored the backline this season, and Salah has carried the reds’ attack. Mohamed Salah has 25 goals and 17 assists in the league this campaign.
Liverpool might end the season with a treble if things go their way. Arne Slot has the chance to lift his first trophy this season in the League Cup final in two weeks. Newcastle may have already handed the reds an edge ahead of the game.

Van Dijk set for Liverpool stay

A couple of weeks ago, there were rumours that Virgil Van Dijk had signed a new deal at the club. The Liverpool captain then came out to rubbish the reports, claiming all the news were ”absolutely wrong”. The reds are already preparing for life without their captain. Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool will be in the market for a new defender in the summer.
Now, James Pearce has revealed that Virgil Van Dijk could stay at the club past this summer. He was speaking on the GMS Market Madness podcast:
“I’m still confident that Van Dijk will stay put. I think he’s been by far and away the best centre-half in European football this season.
“It’s not only what he gives you on the pitch but he is that ideal role model, leader, talisman in terms of the way he conducts himself off the pitch as well.”
The defender could lift Liverpool’s first trophy this season when they face Newcastle in the League Cup in the next few weeks. If the reds are able to repeat the 2-0 win over the Magpies at Anfield, they have the win in the bag.
Good news for the reds
It was always reported that among the trio of Salah, Van Dijk and Trent, the only two that had a desire to stay were the first two names. Trent is reportedly on his way to Spain at the end of the season. There is still time before the summer window, Liverpool have to do everything possible to make Van Dijk sign a new deal.
