Liverpool are in a race against time to tie down Virgil Van Dijk.
Getting near to the end of the season, the club is yet to determine the future of their club captain. Liverpool are already losing Trent Alexander-Arnold. According to news this week, the defender has signed a deal with Real Madrid. Trent has spent the last year being linked with the Spanish giants.
When it comes to Virgil Van Dijk, the defender has said he himself does not know where his future lies:
“If there is news, you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it. At the moment, I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.”

Liverpool are set to lose another key part of their defensive line. Fichajes are reporting that the Dutch international has agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain on a huge contract. According to the report, Van Dijk will receive €80m over two years with a signing bonus of €20m. The offer includes the option of an extra third season.
The 33-year old is currently one of Liverpool’s highest earners, and will increase his wages with a move to France. Van Dijk is yet to sign the deal on the table, and the report further adds that Liverpool are pushing to get him to sign a renewal to remain at Anfield. No decision has been made yet, but PSG will also be aggressive to get the defender to join their team.
Reds are making a huge mistake
Losing Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in one window is a terrible start to the summer. Replacing those two will be near impossible for the team. Liverpool have had their best success when these two players have been ever present in the backline. Van Dijk has anchored one of the best defences in Europe this season, while Trent has returned to form after an underwhelming season last year.
Replacing the duo will cost a fortune, as they are two of the best in Europe at their positions. How will Liverpool go about finding a defender as dominant as Van Dijk, or a fullback as creative as Trent. The current market will also demand huge fees for potential replacements.
