Trent Alexander-Arnold set to leave says Liverpool legend

Trent Alexander-Arnold has not agreed to sign a new contract yet and the trepidation on Merseyside has been increasing. Liverpool are pushing to keep him but so far, their efforts to convince him are yet to bear fruit and they are not getting much encouragement about their chances of keeping him at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold has said very little about the negotiations over a new deal. However, he has been dropping hints that he could be considering leaving Liverpool next summer.

He wants to win the Ballon d’Or and conveniently, Real Madrid players have a happy history of winning that particular personal accolade over the years.

The reigning European champions have been working on a deal to sign him on a free transfer for months. They are prepared to make their formal offer to the player in Janaury if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Liverpool.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are scheduled for a key meeting on Merseyside today where the possibility of the defender leaving Anfield could be discussed.

However, more and more voices are coming out every day to suggest that the player seems destined to leave for Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

‘My intuition about Trent Alexander-Arnold’ – Reds legend

John Aldridge has watched Alexander-Arnold emerge from the Liverpool academy and become a superstar at the club in the last few years.

The Liverpool legend admitted that he would love it if the defender decided to sign a new contract and stay at Anfield for years to come.

However, he is not confident that the 26-year-old wants to stay at Liverpool and feels that all signs suggest that Alexander-Arnold will move on from Anfield at the end of the season.

“I would love for him to stay at Liverpool because he is a great player and has been here for a long time”, Aldridge told Spanish sports daily AS.

“He will be a free agent and it will depend on him. I wish he would still be here, but I don’t think that will be the case. All signs point to him leaving and that’s my intuition too.”

Liverpool are still confident that the defender wants to remain at Anfield and become the club captain in the near future.
