Report: Liverpool to defy Real Madrid, PSG interest and hold onto £75M gem

On Tuesday, a report from the Telegraph claimed that Liverpool and Luis Diaz are heading towards a crossroads amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The winger has also been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid as the Merseysiders face a hugely turbulent period with Jurgen Klopp poised to leave the club at the end of May.

The German has run out of energy and will take a break from football as he decides his future.

For Liverpool, there is a lot to do, including finding a replacement for Klopp, with Ruben Amorim now the favourite to take his post in the summer.

What's the latest on Luis Diaz's future at Anfield?

Report: Liverpool to defy Real Madrid, PSG interest and hold onto £75M gem

The Telegraph says Liverpool rate Diaz at around £75 million but, according to a report from HITC, the player's agents have told Liverpool that he wants a new contract.

If so, that's brilliant news.

His form this season has certainly been deserving of a new deal, with 13 goals and four assists, with Liverpool reportedly "willing to have dialogue" with Diaz.

That said, the club is not "overly impressed" with how the saga has developed with interest from Real Madrid and PSG cropping up in recent weeks.

Diaz apparently wants a new contract sorted out by the summer but with new sporting director, Richard Hughes, and CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, dealing with hiring a replacement for Klopp, they're not focusing on player contracts right now.

Liverpool have much bigger fish to fry right now

I would love to see Diaz sign a new contract and stay at Liverpool for even longer but his deal only expires in June 2027 which makes his contract much less of a priority.

As it stands, Liverpool have three contracts of much higher priority with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all out of contract in June 2025.

No disrespect is meant to Diaz but that trio is far more important to the longevity of this Liverpool side post-Klopp.

I just hope that recent speculation over his future is not a ploy from Diaz and his agents as it's the type of thing that Liverpool typically see straight through and have a low tolerance for.
