Liverpool set to pay £8.5M transfer fee bonus for 2022 signing

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are set to pay Benfica an additional £8.5million for Darwin Nunez following his 60th game for the club, which turned out to be a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

The 24-year-old forward moved to Anfield in the summer of 2022 for a record-breaking £85 million deal from Benfica.

However, Liverpool only paid out an initial £64 million, with the extra £21 million to be settled in bonuses.

Benfica received paid £4.3 million after Nunez's 10th game for Liverpool, and now an additional £8.5 million is due after his 60th appearance.

The final payment is contingent on "the individual and collective performance of the team throughout the contract.”

Both Nunez's individual performance and Liverpool's team performance throughout the contract, which runs until summer 2028, will determine how much more the Reds will pay.

His time at Anfield has been far from steady with many critics slamming him for missing chances but this season he has responded with force.

The Uruguayan has seven goals and five assists in all competitions for Liverpool this season with it likely he will beat his tally of 15 goals and four assists from last term.

With more time under Jurgen Klopp, Nunez has also developed a keener understanding of how he is expected to play in the German's system.
