Liverpool in talks to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard

Liverpool are in discussions with the management team of Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard over a move to Anfield.

The French defender is extremely capable on the ball and very reliable in defence, making him a stunning target for Jurgen Klopp.

What's the latest transfer news on Benjamin Pavard?

According to one of the most reliable journalists around, Christian Falk, Liverpool are in talks with Pavard's agents.

The journalist, who is considered the most informed reporter when it comes to German football news, claims the Reds must compete with Chelsea and Barcelona for his signature.

After telling Caught Offside last month that Liverpool are interested in the World Cup winner, Falk has now informed Give Me Sport that he is the subject of talks in Liverpool's summer rebuild.

After being asked if Liverpool are in for the 27-year-old, Falk confirmed: "Yeah, of course. He's an interesting player for the Premier League.

"Chelsea are always in talks with his management; Liverpool are in talks with his management, Barcelona as well, but Barcelona don't have the money at the moment.

"They would like to have him as a free agent next summer."

Pavard would solve multiple problems for Liverpool

Not only is Pavard able to play at right-back but he is also able to perform admirably in central defence.

And after Klopp utilised Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield last season, Pavard moving to Liverpool would enable them to tweak their tactical setup in several ways.

Barcelona seem ill-equipped to rival Liverpool for his signature but Chelsea, who always seem able to spend big, could put up a major fight. The defender is valued at £31M by Bayern Munich which is very affordable.

While FSG prefer to sign younger players, Pavard (27) is still young for a centre-back and would open up so many options to Klopp should he sign.
