Liverpool are reportedly in the mix to secure one of Barcelona's brightest young talents, with several other top clubs also in pursuit.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are among a host of teams crafting strategies to lure 19-year-old Barcelona B team defender Mikayil Faye.

Faye, who has recently made his debut for the Senegalese national team, is tipped as a rising star within the Catalan club's ranks.

Despite only joining Barcelona from Croatian side NK Kustosija last year for a fee in the region of £1 million, Faye has already made significant strides, finding himself on the bench for Xavi's first team this season.

His rapid development and potential have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona planning to promote him to their main squad next season.

Liverpool's interest is heightened by their expected defensive reshuffle this summer.

With Joel Matip's contract winding down and no renewal in sight, and potential incoming manager Ruben Amorim known for favoring a three-center-back formation, Liverpool are assessing their options, which include Sporting CP's Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio.

RC Lens made an £8 million bid for Faye in January, which Barcelona turned down.

Since then, interest in the young defender has surged, with clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Lille, AS Monaco, and OGC Nice also vying for his signature.

Barcelona now face a critical decision as lucrative offers for Faye are expected to come in for a player who has yet to feature regularly for their first team.

Faye's attributes have been lauded by his Barcelona teammate Joules Koundé, who praised his dynamism, aggressiveness, technical ability, and rapid adaptation to a new country and language.

Koundé believes Faye is on track for a promising future.

He said: "I think he has a lot of talent. He is very, very explosive, very dynamic, very aggressive, very good with the ball, he has a good left foot.

"He recently arrived in a new country with a new language and I think he is doing very well, I have heard him speak a little Spanish already.

"I see someone who wants to work and I think he has a bright future ahead.”

Richard Hughes, Liverpool's new sporting director, will have his work cut out as he steps into his new role, deciding whether Faye represents a savvy investment for the club’s future.

While Faye may not be the most renowned name among Liverpool's targets, his potential for long-term success could make him a valuable asset.

He's certainly one for Liverpool supporters and football fans to watch closely.
