CEO says "it is possible" coveted manager one day manages "Liverpool or Bayern"

CEO says "it is possible" coveted manager one day manages "Liverpool or Bayern"

Fabrizio Romano says that Xabi Alonso will one day manage Real Madrid after rejecting Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The Spanish coach guided Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title on the weekend and wants to remain at the German club.

It's a commendable decision but for now it means he will not be the next Liverpool manager with Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim well-placed to replace Klopp.

Leverkusen CEO backs Alonso to become Real Madrid manager

Strangely, Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has tipped Alonso to take charge of Madrid one day just shortly after the 42-year-old coach re-committed himself to the club.

Carro told Cadena Ser: "I have no doubt that Xabi Alonso will coach Real Madrid at some point.

"What I am not clear about is when, but that he will end up at Real Madrid I have no doubt, as it is also possible that he trains Liverpool or Bayern.

"There are a lot of clubs interested, that's how it is, which doesn't mean that in the future he can't coach some of the clubs mentioned, especially his former teams as a player. But he feels comfortable here, otherwise he wouldn't continue.

"We will maintain our ambition to play in the Champions League next year."

Fabrizio Romano reads between the lines of Carro's quotes

Reporting via the Daily Briefing, Romano has added to Carro's quotes, providing an insight into Xabi Alonso's relationship with Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Romano says: "Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has been very clear, telling the Spanish press that he 100% expects Xabi Alonso to become Real Madrid manager one day. Carro was very strong in his statement, saying he has no doubts that Alonso will be Real Madrid manager in the future.

"Carro knows that Alonso is super attracted to a future with Real Madrid - this is the reality, as Alonso still loves all his former clubs, such as Bayern and Liverpool, but the feeling with Real Madrid, as a Spanish guy, is really special.

"You might also remember that when I told you about Alonso rejecting Bayern and Liverpool to stay at Leverkusen this summer, I told you that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is a big fan of Alonso - this is an important point. Perez is a big fan of Alonso as a person, and as a manager. He also believes he has the perfect style for Real Madrid and that his skills as a coach are fantastic.

"Perez is a super big fan of Alonso and this is why the feeling is that one day he will become Real Madrid manager."

It would be nice to see Alonso at Anfield one day

Many Liverpool fans (myself included) became attached to the idea of seeing Alonso take the Anfield hot seat and while it's the end of the world that he's staying in Germany, it would be nice to see him back on Merseyside one day.

From his short time with Leverkusen, it's clear he's going to be a top coach.

After taking the job in 2022 with Leverkusen mired in a relegation battle, Alonso has now broken Bayern Munich's stranglehold on the Bundesliga title, becoming the first team to win the title in 11 years that wasn't Bayern.

Incidentally, Jurgen Klopp with Borussia Dortmund in 2013 was the last to achieve the same feat.
