Liverpool demanded critical contract clause which led to transfer negotiations collapsing this month

Leeds United ended negotiations with Liverpool over a potential loan for Fabio Carvalho before the 21-year-old secured a temporary move to Hull City.

The attacking midfielder was recalled from his RB Leipzig loan due to concerns over a lack of game time. Carvalho played just 360 minutes in six months for the Bundesliga outfit before returning to England.

Hull reacted with the most certainty to seal a six-month loan with the Tigers' owner Acun Ilıcalı expressing his delight at the capture of the Liverpool star.

Manager Liam Rosenior said: “I couldn’t be happier. Everyone is aware of Fabio’s ability, his qualities as a young player."

Leeds United refused to guarantee Carvalho playing time

Talks with Leeds over a loan for Carvalho collapsed due to Liverpool's insistence on the inclusion of a clause which stipulated a guaranteed number of minutes, according to Leeds Live.

The Whites were "not prepared to sign a contract which stipulated guaranteed playing time." The reason cited is the high level of competition within the Leeds squad which is fair.

The important thing, from a Liverpool perspective, is that Carvalho gets back to playing.

At 21, nothing is more important than for him to playing regularly especially ahead of his return to the club in the summer when a more long-term decisions will be made on his future.

There is no denying Carvalho's talent but he may not be suited to Jurgen Klopp's style of play and if so, he will likely be sold in the summer.

Carvalho's contract expires in July 2027 so there is still time to give him a chance to prove himself at Anfield which is hopefully the direction Liverpool head in.
