"That’s the situation": Jurgen Klopp hints at discontent with FSG over £103M transfer not being sanctioned

Jurgen Klopp has put pressure on Liverpool owners, FSG, after hinting in a press conference that the money required to complete a new signing isn't there.

It's pretty blatant that Liverpool need more numbers in midfield to cope with the injury crisis at hand.

However, it's not just about numbers for me. There are now a handful of sides in the Premier League with a better midfield than the Reds.

Of course, it's not fair to compare Liverpool at their worst to other teams at their best but given what Klopp's side was challenging for last season, they should have the best engine room in the Premier League.

After Aurelien Tchouameni signed for Real Madrid, Liverpool seemed to move on from their midfielder interest and immediately pursued a deal to bring Darwin Nunez to Anfield.

However, Klopp didn't suddenly decide his side doesn't need a new midfielder.

It's simply a case of the right player not being available.

£103M-rated Jude Bellingham is undoubtedly Liverpool's first choice target but he isn't available this summer and so that explains the lack of movement for a midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that a lack of a midfield signing is actually due to a lack of funds being made available to him by the owners, FSG.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester United, Klopp told the media: "If the right player is not available then we tend to say ‘ok we deal with what we have before we sign a player who is not 100 per cent the right player. Right.'

"Now we have more injuries than we would have imagined, and now would be cool to have a new midfielder in, of course now.

"And then there would be another fact: we are not in charge of what we spend, we are not.

"That’s the situation, we get things told and then we deal with it.

"It was always the same, never different.”

Klopp has, on occasion, dropped hints like these to the media in an attempt to get the owners to loosen their purse strings.

It has never been a particularly successful tactic but at the very least, it does show us that it's not just a case of Klopp being stubborn.

Fans are not surprised to learn that FSG are refusing to sanction a particular transfer as they've done it many times before.

However, they will have the wrath of Liverpool fans worldwide to deal with if not signing a midfielder costs the club silverware or even a place in the top four.
