Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool have "made calls" to "agents" as transfer plans set

Liverpool are only looking at centre-back signings this month although it remains very unlikely one will be recruited before the end of the January transfer window.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano says: "The only contacts I was told about was about the centre-back position.”

This may frustrate supporters but it has been a feature of the Reds' approach to the transfer market under FSG and Jurgen Klopp.

Given Everton, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City are all under investigation for their spending habits and disclosure of financial information to the Premier League, it's a good thing.

Liverpool have been contacting agents in centre-back search

Romano reports that Liverpool have been reaching out to the agents of centre-back targets in their bid to sign a new centre-back.

The Italian journalist writes: “As mentioned yesterday, Liverpool are exploring the market for potential new signings at centre-back, though it’s not something urgent or guaranteed to happen this January, as we know Liverpool generally prefer to do their business in the summer.

“I don’t have any concrete name yet at this stage, but I was just told that Liverpool have made some calls to some centre-backs’ agents to be informed on situations.

"It hasn’t become a concrete negotiation as of now. It’s not easy to find top players in the January window, that’s the problem.”

Which centre backs are Liverpool linked with?

goncalo inacio ousmane diomande

Liverpool have been linked with a host of centre-backs in recent weeks.

The list of targets includes but is not limited to the likes of Ousmane Diomande, Leny Yoro, Goncalo Inacio, Ko Itakura and Levi Colwill.

It still remains to be seen who the Reds make a formal approach for but they all offer different qualities that Jurgen Klopp could make use of.
