Bayern now considering interm managers to wait for Alonso - or Klopp...

Bayern Munich are reportedly considering interim management options as they potentially look to appoint either Xabi Alonso or Jurgen Klopp in a year's time.

This development comes as Thomas Tuchel prepares to exit the club at the end of the 2023/24 season, prompting Bayern to assess their long-term managerial strategy.

Xabi Alonso has made significant strides as the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen. In his second season, he guided the team to their first-ever Bundesliga title and has positioned them as contenders for both the German Cup and Europa League honours.

His success has naturally drawn Bayern's interest, but Alonso has reiterated his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen and intends to honour his contract.

Despite this, reports from Kicker journalist Georg Holzner indicate that Bayern Munich are considering employing an interim manager to bridge the gap as they wait for Alonso's availability

The Daily Mail has even hinted they could make an audacious move for outgoing Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Bayern now considering interm managers to wait for Alonso - or Klopp...

Klopp announced in January his decision to leave Liverpool after nine years, citing a lack of 'energy' and a desire to step back from coaching.

Though Klopp has not indicated plans to return to management immediately, Bayern may hope that after a break, he could be tempted back to Bundesliga.

Names floated for the interim role include ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre and former Bayern coach Hansi Flick.

Flick's return to the national team coaching job did not go as planned, leading to his replacement by Julian Nagelsmann.

The prospect of Favre, who has worked with Bayern's director of sport Max Eberl at Borussia Monchengladbach, also offers a familiar face for the role.

Would Jurgen Klopp join Bayern Munich? Or move into international football?

At this point, all talk of Jurgen Klopp's next job in football is speculation.

He could join Bayern Munich, take a national team job or even move into punditry for a bit.

However, at this juncture there is simply no way to know.

By all accounts, Klopp himself doesn't know his plans beyond a well-deserved extended break from the rigours of football management.

I would say that, as a former Borussia Dortmund coach, I would be surprised to see him take the Bayern post.
