Barcelona want £102M Liverpool transfer but Fabrizio Romano says it's impossible

Barcelona are setting their sights on strengthening key positions during the summer transfer window, with specific plans to acquire a new pivot midfielder and a left winger.

Financial constraints will largely influence their choice of targets, yet the club’s sporting department is diligently preparing for various scenarios, identifying several potential recruits for these roles.

Barcelona want 75 million Luis Diaz transfer

One notable target that has captured Barcelona's interest is Liverpool's Luis Diaz.

SPORT has reported that the Colombian international, renowned for his pace and skill on the left wing, is high on Barcelona’s list.

Diaz has been on Barcelona’s radar since before his transfer to Liverpool, and their interest has persisted since he made the move to England.

According to Colombian outlet El Heraldo (H/T Goal) , Liverpool will demand a mind-boggling price-tag of between €120-€145 million (£102M-£123M) for Diaz if Barca come knocking.

As it stands, the La Liga giants may not be able to complete a transfer as financially taxing as this.

Fabrizio Romano tempers Barcelona hopes with latest report

The departure of Ousmane Dembele last summer has intensified Barcelona’s search for a dynamic winger who can deliver immediate results, and Diaz fits this profile perfectly.

It's noted that Diaz himself is open to the prospect of joining Barcelona, buoyed by familial aspirations with his father previously expressing that playing for the Catalan giants was a dream of his.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported on the likelihood of a transfer like this being done in the summer.

He told Caught Offside in his Daily Briefing: “This is not what I’m hearing, though – Diaz is crucial player for Liverpool and also, for Barca to pay for a player like Diaz with their Financial Fair Play situation…I think that could be quite difficult.”

Prying Diaz away from Liverpool will be a challenge, as the Premier League club is keen to retain their star, who is under contract until 2027.

At this stage, while mutual interest exists, the feasibility of such a transfer remains complex due to Barcelona’s financial constraints and Liverpool’s reluctance to sell.
