Agent confirms his client is wanted by Liverpool - meeting could be held in Germany

During an interview, agent Gerald Sagoe confirmed that his client Pape Demba Diop has been contacted by Liverpool with a meeting potentially set to be held in Germany.

The 19-year-old currently plays for Belgian outfit Zulte Waregem and the U20 Senegal national side but with a move to Liverpool touted, he could be set to make a big step up in his career.

Pape Demba Diop - is he joining Liverpool?

Gerald Sagoe, Diop's agent, told Tuttomercato during an interview that Liverpool have been expressing interest in his client.

He revealed: “Yes, towards the end of last season while he was busy with the national team, we were contacted by Liverpool and we had preliminary meetings in Paris.

“Three French teams have expressed interest and some Italian teams, including Napoli, have expressed interest."

Interestingly, Sagoe added that he and his lawyer will hold meetings in Germany in the next few weeks and with Liverpool holding their pre-season training camp in the Black Forest, it could be that the Reds will continue their talks with Diop.

The agent continued: "Together with my lawyer, Alessandro Mazzucato, we will have some appointments in Germany in the next few weeks. Let’s see what happens.”

Could a deal for Diop be completed this month?

It's unclear how advanced Liverpool's interest is but they are well-known for signing some of the most exciting young talent, including Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho and Stefan Bajcetic.

Yahoo reports that Jorg Schmadtke has strong relations in Belgium having facilitated several transfers to the Bundesliga in the past which is an encouraging sign.

Of course, the final decision will come down to whether Diop and his representatives believe a move to Liverpool is in the best interest of his development in the next few years.

The 19-year-old is at a pivotal point in his career and it might be that with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister signing for the Reds with more arrivals expected, Anfield is not the best place for Diop to continue rising in the game.
