Liverpool fans are being forced to endure speculation over the futures of some of their key players due to their respective contract situations.
The Merseyside giants have made a rousing start to the season and are sitting at the top of the Premier League table after winning five of their opening six league games.
Liverpool are also well-placed to qualify for the knockout rounds of the Champions League after winning their first two games of the revamped format.
However, there could be some upheaval in store for the club as soon as next summer as three of their key players are set to be out of contract at the end of the season.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are in the final years of their respective deals but the Reds are more worried about losing a player of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ability at the peak of his powers.
The 25-year-old is in the final year of his contract and Jamie Carragher recently admitted that he is growing more worried with each passing day that the defender could leave on a free transfer next summer.
Real Madrid are interested in snapping up the England international on a free transfer next year and he is believed to be considering the move to Spain.
Real Madrid have an alternative in mind if they fail to lure the Liverpool star
Alexander-Arnold is a product of the academy and has a deep emotional attachment with the Merseyside giants.
Liverpool remain confident that he will agree to sign a new contract and ignore the lure of moving to Spain in favour of staying at his boyhood club.
Real Madrid are also aware that they might fail to convince Alexander-Arnold and according to CaughtOffSide, they have identified Tottenham’s Porro as the alternative.
The Spaniard has looked brilliant under Ange Postecoglou and is the first-choice right-back at Tottenham.
However, Tottenham are worried that he could be tempted to return to Spain if a club of Real Madrid’s stature want to sign him.
The north London club would ideally like to hold on to him but it is believed an offer worth €65m could get accepted by Spurs next summer.
