This will become a concern – Danny Mills predicts choppy waters ahead for Liverpool

Liverpool have made an outstanding start to the season in the Premier League and the Champions League but there are issues that the club hierarchy need to sort out in the coming months to avoid a disruptive effect on the team.

The Merseyside giants are sitting at the summit of the Premier League table after seven league games with Arne Slot making an instant impact as their new manager.

Liverpool have emerged as real title contenders under the new manager in the early part of the season despite tougher tests lying ahead after the international break.

However, Liverpool fans are aware that optimism could soon make way for pessimism if the Liverpool board do not act soon enough and sort out the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The three stalwarts of Liverpool’s recent success are out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Danny Mills insists that the contract situations of the Liverpool trio could derail their season

As things stand, all three players will be free to discuss a pre-contract with clubs outside England once the transfer window opens again in January.

Mills insisted that despite what anything thinks their agents will be holding talks with clubs in the Premier League as well behind the curtains.

He stressed that if the trio do not sign new deals before January there is a real chance that their heads will be somewhere else in the second half of the season.

The former Premier League star stressed that three key players focusing on things beyond their on-the-pitch performances could derail Liverpool’s campaign.

“What’s going to become a concern is in two months’ time Trent, Van Dijk and Mo Salah can talk to foreign clubs, and their agents will be talking to Premier League clubs”, Mills said on talkSPORT.

“We both know that’s going to happen.

“At that point if they are not going to stay at Liverpool and if they are not going to sign, do their heads turn slightly?

“Do performances start to dip a little bit? We saw what happened after Jurgen Klopp announced his retirement, they struggled.

“It’s tough to do that and all of a sudden those three key players might be thinking my future is elsewhere, I want to be fit for where you go next and am I going to push myself in training and games?

“I don’t know the answer as I don’t know them personally but that would be my worry.”
