Liverpool’s rumoured links to Alphonso Davies show club’s ambition

Liverpool are looking at several areas of the squad that they want to strengthen in the next summer transfer window. While a few incomings will depend on departures, there are certain areas of the pitch they are almost certain to bring in new faces for and left-back is one of them.

Andy Robertson will go down as a Liverpool great and has been one of the stalwarts of the club in an era where they have won everything that was there to be won.

However, the 30-year-old missed pre-season due to injury and that meant he has been playing catch-up under new manager Arne Slot this season. There have also been signs of wear and tear and he is no longer a certain starter at Anfield.

Liverpool do not want to move him on and they are also planning to offer him a new contract at the end of the season. However, there is a clear line of thinking at the club they want a younger left-back.

The Reds want to bring in Robertson’s replacement while he is at the club and they are keeping tabs on several targets across the Premier League and Europe.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson have emerged as top targets but the club are eyeing more players and they have a clear eye on Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

Davies will be out of contract at the end of the season and clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested in getting their hands on him.

Manchester United have indeed offered him a massive deal and are said to have requested a meeting in January.

However, Liverpool are prepared to compete for his signature as well and according to Football Insider, the Reds believe they can agree on a deal to sign him.

Move for Alphonso Davies will show their ambition

Liverpool fans have been frustrated by FSG’s perceived parsimony in the transfer market and their refusal to pay the biggest fees and wages.

FSG have not shied away from spending big on transfer fees as evident from their moves for Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Darwin Nunez in recent years.

However, Liverpool have been careful about their wage structure and have ensured that they do not breach it for anyone. However, Davies is expected to demand a top salary if he leaves Bayern Munich on a free transfer in the summer.

Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?

Liverpool’s interest in the Canadian shows that the club are prepared to shake away their rigidity but a deal would still have to make financial sense to the club.

They won’t go overboard to land him and are keen to ensure that they do not make the same mistakes that Manchester United committed when it comes to offering massive contracts.

Liverpool will hope to hold talks with Davies and his representatives in 2025 and assess whether a deal would be financially feasible.

The Reds fans should be excited about the club’s plans if they push to beat Manchester United and Real Madrid to the signature of the Canadian.
