Liverpool’s title chances analysed as rivals continue to struggle

Manchester City’s massive run of poor form has benefited Liverpool. The Reds would still be fighting for the league even if the reigning champions were playing well but the significant lead at the top of the table has definitely left them with more space for errors in the latter half of the season. For now, it doesn’t seem like Liverpool will have to worry about Manchester City as a title challenger going forward this term.

Pep Guardiola’s men have not seen such a crisis in their form ever. They have won just one of their last six Premier League games and they have dropped down to fourth in the league table.

Liverpool have an eight-point lead over the reigning champions having played a game less and Manchester City are now more worried about finishing in the top four than challenging for the Premier League standing.

Manchester City’s form has raised eyebrows given they have been the epitome of consistency over the years and came into the season on the back of winning four straight Premier League titles. Their issues have led to the suggestion that this could be Liverpool’s best chance to win the Premier League.

However, there are also some concerns that Manchester City will react soon and there is an expectation that the purse strings will be loosened to fill up the gaps in the squad in the January transfer window.

The Reds must be wary of a wounded Manchester City in January

Manchester City are almost certain to open the chequebook in the January transfer window. There is a feeling that they failed to move on a few players and freshen up their squad in recent windows.

The Premier League champions will start the process of ushering in a new era in the winter window and will definitely spend money in the middle of the season.

But why should Liverpool be wary of it? They have to.

Manchester City need a defensive midfielder to replace the injured Rodri and the lack of the Spaniard’s presence has massively affected them this season. Guess who they are keen to sign?

Martin Zubimendi!

Liverpool chased him last summer and there are suggestions that he is unlikely to leave Real Sociedad in the winter transfer window. However, things could change if Guardiola calls him and Manchester City can offer him a lucrative contract to move to the Etihad.

Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?

Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez

The Reds are still interested in Zubimendi but if Manchester City make an offer for him, it would become far too complicated for the Merseyside giants.

Manchester City are also facing problems at left-back and would it be a surprise if they for another Liverpool target in Milos Kerkez? He is the standout young left-back in the Premier League and a move to the Etihad will appeal to him.

Liverpool fans are celebrating Manchester City’s temporary downfall but the winter window could be a problem for the Reds if Manchester City decide to flex their financial muscle.
