Steven Gerrard to make sensational Liverpool return as Arne Slot successor

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could find himself in the dugout at Anfield if the Reds choose to relieve Arne Slot of his duties.

Despite Liverpool being unbeaten in their last four matches, they have still failed to hit the spectacular heights they did at times last season, as they went on to lift the Premier League.

Mohamed Salah’s outburst following the 3-3 draw against Leeds showed supporters that there are still plenty of chinks in Liverpool’s armour that are preventing them from getting back to their best despite Slot’s men being victorious against Inter Milan in midweek.

However, if results do worsen again and Slot’s position becomes vulnerable, it seems Gerrard could be in line to replace the Dutchman.

Steven Gerrard ‘very keen’ on potential Liverpool return

Gerrard recently gave his insight on the Salah situation, where the former Reds captain seemed eager for Salah to be involved with the rest of the squad once again.

This more personal approach to man management could potentially be one of the reasons Gerrard’s name keeps popping up as a potential replacement for Slot.

According to reports from Football Insider on 12 December, Gerrard is said to be “very keen” on a potential return to Liverpool, with the club previously having internal conversations about appointing their former captain as manager on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Gerrard, 45, has not managed in the Premier League since he was sacked by Aston Villa back in 2022 after an underwhelming stint at the West Midlands outfit.

However, given his connection with the club and the respect he would instantly command in the dressing room, appointing Gerrard on an interim basis to steady the ship, if needed, could be a wise move by Richard Hughes and Co.

Arne Slot should be given until the end of the season, regardless of results

In the summer, Slot’s squad underwent a massive overhaul, and whilst this new-look Liverpool team has not lived up to expectations so far, Slot deserves the season to continue to embed his new signings into the team.

For so long, Liverpool were unable to kick on under Jurgen Klopp due to their lack of spending, and everyone associated with Liverpool knew a massive rebuild was overdue, with the likes of Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson all ageing.

After winning the title in his first season, Slot has earned the right to have the opportunity to lead Liverpool into this new era.

However, if their poor form continues next season, even the staunchest defender of Slot may begin to change their mind.
