Sporting director opens up on Liverpool deal
Jayden Danns joined Sunderland on a loan deal for the rest of the season. The young striker penned a long-term deal will Liverpool before completing the loan. Sunderland took a while before announcing the player because of complications during the medical. Reports claim that Danns was carrying a back injury which was discovered during the medical. The youngster will complete rehabilitation at the AXA training centre before joining the Sunderland squad. Danns scored three goals in limited game time for Liverpool this season.
Sunderland were busy near the transfer deadline. The Black Cats signed Enzo Le Fee on loan from Roma, as well as Jayden Danns. Sunderland’s director of football Kristjaan Speakman explained why he signed Jayden Danns, and how his injury slowed down the transfer:
“Jayden was a player we really wanted to sign and it was just really unfortunate, at the very end we uncovered something,” Speakman said.
“He was fully training, playing… but now he’s going to have rest for a period of time. When it comes at a very late hour, it becomes very difficult for us to find an alternative. We had a really good discussion with Liverpool about the way forward and he can hopefully come and join us at some stage. For us it wasn’t just about adding numbers to the group, it was about quality and personality. Jayden met both of that criteria.”
Sunderland will have to wait a few weeks before Danns is cleared to return to action.
Danns is a player for the future
Jayden Danns is highly rated at Anfield, and seen as a future first team player. The youngster has shown his ability since he debuted. It was unfortunate that he picked up an injury. But the medical revealing this injury problem might have saved Liverpool from aggravating his injuries, especially at his age.
