A Spanish giant is interested in acquiring the services of a Liverpool defender. With his contract expiring in 2026, this club could make a move as early as January.
Some of Liverpool’s current stars will see their contracts running out in 2026. Ibrahima Konate is one of the prominent names among them. The centre-back signed from RB Leipzig in 2021 for a fee £35m. But if no extension deal is reached between the club and player then he will move on for free.
Another defender may follow the same path as Konate with his deal too coming up for expiration in 2026. This is after reports that Real Madrid were interested in signing this Red midfielder.

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested to bring Liverpool defender Andy Robertson to their club. The 31-year old was first choice left-back at Liverpool since 2017. However with the joining of Milos Kerkez he lost his place in the lineup.
Sporting director Richard Hughes bought the Hungarian international on a £40m deal from former club Bournemouth. The Scotsman is willing to fight it out for a place but his long-term future seems to be away from Merseyside.
Robbo had interest from Atletico in the summer as well but he chose to remain at Anfield. But with his contract nearing its end, there is renewed interest in the player.
Taking advantage of contract situation
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico will be taking advantage of the Robertson’s expiring contract. If no new deal is reached at Anfield, the Liverpool vice-captain will be available for free.
In the summer too, the main deterrent for Diego Simeone was a hefty transfer fee. Although that possibility will no longer exist in a few months.
Robertson had joined Liverpool from Hull City back in 2017. With two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup and other honours to his name, it has been a successful stay at the club.
It is for all to see whether he can repeat the same success at the Metropolitan, if decides to go there that is.
