“From what I’m told”: Fabrizio Romano warns Liverpool about “serious danger” regarding £72m star’s contract talks

Sadio Mane.

Fabrizio Romano has warned over the “serious danger” presented by Sadio Mane’s contract situation as he has not entered talks with the club yet.

The Senegal international will be feeling the pressure to perform when he returns to the UK after Liverpool signed Luis Diaz from Porto for €40million plus €20million in add-ons.

The Colombian might be transferring from the Portuguese Liga Nos which isn’t as strong as the Premier League but has more goals and more assists than the Kop icon but I’m fully expecting a strong response from the 29-year-old.

Andy Robertson has played like a man possessed since Kostas Tsimikas has come into the side this season since getting to grips with Jurgen Klopp’s tactical demands and while Mane can’t regain lost pace and agility due to age, he will be forced to perform with Diaz snapping at his heels.

That’s not the only pressure that will be at play either.

His contract is up relatively soon as his Anfield terms expire in 2023 and so Liverpool will be investigating whether or not to replace him, whether or not to extend his contract or his he should be given a short-term extension to tie him over until 2024 or 2025.

Jordan Henderson signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025 when he will 34 and his form over the last two months has shown a glimpse of what it might be like when he approaches the end of his career.

Mane is able to contribute at a much higher level and is certainly deserving of a contract in my opinion but, according to Fabrizio Romano’s sources, the Liverpool attacker has yet to enter talks with Liverpool.

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand presents FIVE YouTube show, Romano told the former Manchester United defender that Mohamed Salah’s contract is more of a priority to the Reds.

He said: “They’re working for Mo Salah as a priority, but from what I’m told, for Mane, they are not even in conversation yet, and he’s out of contract in 2023. So I’m not saying that Mane is leaving Liverpool, but they are not talking over a new contract at the moment. So there is a serious danger.”
