According to a few different reports, Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign Paulo Dybala but have already opened talks with his agents.
Tancredi Palmieri reported in the closing days of the transfer window that Liverpool are in talks with Dybala as they stay on top of his contract situation.
The playmaker has rejected a contract from Juventus after they changed the terms of an already agreed deal and Palmieri, significantly, adds that “Dybala would be keen to move to Liverpool.”
According to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Liverpool are expected to fly to Italy this month with the view to agree on a pre-contract deal with Dybala although I expect his £266k/week wages to be an issue but time will tell.
The latest comes from 90Min and they claim that Dybala has been offered to several clubs in the Premier League, including Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
PSG and Inter Milan are also interested as the player’s representatives get set to tour the continent as they search for a new club for the continent. Sounds like a lovely job. Where can I sign up?
The report from TMW and the one from 90Min seem contradictory. If Liverpool were set to fly to Italy to sign Dybala, then surely his agents wouldn’t be set to fly around Europe to drum up interest in the Argentine?
At least, that’s how I see it. Dybala is already 28 and FSG rarely sanction signings for players that old with Thiago the rare exception but the Spaniard is a player that we see only several times a generation.
There have only been a handful of players in his position that have achieved more and can say they’re better players with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric two examples but Paulo Dybala is not a player that falls into that category.
If anything, he’s a player that fits into the ‘missed potential’ category as many tipped him to follow in Lionel Messi’s footsteps but he’s often failed to deliver on the biggest stage and now, with his 30th birthday just under 2 years away, Liverpool should be wary of adding him to their ageing squad.
Fabio Carvalho is a much better allocation of funds as the signing-on bonus the Reds would need to fork out to pay the Juventus star would easily cover the Fulham starlet’s fee and his career has barely even begun.
