Rhian Brewster joins Sheffield United for £23.5million

As Anfield Central reported earlier this week, Rhian Brewster has joined Sheffield United and Liverpool have negotiated a buy-back clause as well as a 15% sell-on clause.

The 20-year-old will add much-needed firepower to a Sheffield United front line that has failed to score a goal in all three of their Premier League games this season despite playing impressive football.

Brewster completed a medical on Friday and has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, Liverpool and Sheffield United have confirmed on their respective official websites.

Liverpool have won three from three Premier League games this season but after beating Lincoln City to reach the Carabao Cup round of 16, the Reds were beaten by Arsenal on penalties.

Brewster wasn’t named in any of their matchday squads this term, confirming interest from Sheffield United as Liverpool couldn’t afford to have the forward suffer an injury that could potentially scupper a move to the Blades.

Sporting director Michael Edwards has once again shown his outstanding negotiating ability by including a buy-back and 15% sell-on clause which will mean that if Brewster fulfils his potential, he could return to Anfield in a couple years.

Liverpool won’t be left shorthanded by Brewster’s departure given the reliable fitness of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

In reserve, Jurgen Klopp can call on Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino while Divock Origi could still be an option if he doesn’t leave before tomorrow’s deadline.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Harry Wilson are close to leaving the club as it’s clear they won’t have much opportunity to play regularly.
