The solid start Liverpool have made to their season under new manager Arne Slot has masked the fact that they had a difficult summer transfer window under the new structure led by sporting director Richard Hughes.
The Reds are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table after winning five of their opening six games and are also well-placed in the Champions League.
Liverpool managed to beat Bologna 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday night despite an imperfect performance and Slot and his team are riding on a high at the moment.
The new Reds boss has managed to hide the fact that Liverpool struggled in the last transfer window and failed to sign a number 6, which was a priority for the window.
However, it is emerging that the club missed out on a few more players because of their refusal to push the envelope in the market.
According to the Danish daily Tipsbladet, Liverpool failed with a bid for FC Midtjylland star Dario Osorio in the last summer transfer window.
Liverpool would have had to pay more to get their hands on the Chilean winger
The Reds were interested in the 20-year-old Chilean who was brought to Europe by Midtjylland last year.
The young winger had a solid first season in Europe, scoring nine goals in all competitions and has continued to remain a key player this term.
Liverpool tabled a bid worth €8.7m to €10m for the winger who has been termed the next Alexis Sanchez.
However, the offer was not considered good enough who wanted far more money before they would have agreed to sell him.
Liverpool’s unwillingness could cost them as more clubs such as Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Lille and Real Sociedad have intensified their scouting of the winger.
FC Midtjylland are planning to make Osorio one of the big sales from the Danish Superliga in the next summer transfer window.
The record sale from the Danish top flight is currently held by Ernest Nuamah who joined RWDM from Nordsjaelland for €25m in the summer of 2023.
