Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a summer 2025 move for Real Sociedad’s talented winger Takefusa Kubo, as they look to strengthen their attack for the future.
According to reports from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have been closely monitoring Kubo’s development and are prepared to make a serious effort to bring him to Anfield.
They report: “Liverpool have no plans to give up and will try again to close the signing of Takefusa Kubo next summer, who has become a recurring name on Liverpool ‘s agenda. The English club has been closely following the Japanese for months, who has shown notable growth in his performance since his arrival in La Liga.”
They state that the starting price for Kubo is €60 million or £50.6 million.
The report finishes by stating: “The summer of 2025 could be a turning point in Takefusa Kubo’s career. Liverpool, with the clear intention of strengthening their squad, could make a definitive effort to sign the Japanese. Everything will depend on how the negotiations develop and whether Real Sociedad is willing to let one of its most valuable players go, as long as the financial offer meets their expectations.”

His speed, technical ability, and creativity in the final third have made him a key player, catching the attention of top European clubs, including Liverpool. The winger has contributed 17 goals and 14 assists in 89 appearances for the Basque side, solidifying his reputation as a rising star.
Real Sociedad are aware of Kubo’s potential and have inserted a €60 million release clause in his contract. While this figure is significant, Liverpool have shown a willingness to invest in young talent, and they may be prepared to meet Sociedad’s demands. If negotiations go smoothly, a deal in the summer of 2025 could be a major turning point for both Kubo and Liverpool.
Kubo’s journey to this point has been remarkable. He first rose to prominence with FC Tokyo before being snapped up by Real Madrid in 2019. However, his time with the Spanish giants didn’t go as planned, leading to several loan spells before he found success at Real Sociedad.
If Liverpool do pursue Kubo, his versatility, particularly as a right-winger, could make him a valuable asset for manager Arne Slot as he continues to build a dynamic, forward-thinking squad at Anfield.
