Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker has shed light on the key to the team’s perfect start to the 2024/25 season under new manager Arne Slot.
With three wins from three matches, including victories over Ipswich Town, Brentford, and Manchester United, Liverpool have not only excelled in attack, scoring seven goals, but also maintained a flawless defensive record with clean sheets in each game.
In a recent interview with Liverpool’s official website, Alisson credited the team’s exceptional work-rate and defensive efforts as the driving force behind their success.
“But what I want to highlight is the hard work of these guys defensive-wise. They are running a lot, they are working so hard for the team when they don’t have the ball – I think this is what is making us win these games at the beginning of the season,” Alisson said.
The Brazilian goalkeeper emphasised that the collective effort, including contributions from forwards and midfielders, is crucial.
Alisson continued: “So we have to keep those things ongoing – not only Mo [Salah] and Lucho [Luis Diaz] but the other boys as well, Diogo [Jota], the midfielders, the line of four, everybody. We are working so hard and this is what should be the highlight from our side.”
Alisson’s comments reflect the cohesive team spirit that Slot has instilled since his arrival. The goalkeeper himself has been a key part of this defensive solidity, being the only Premier League goalkeeper yet to concede a goal this season. His standout performances have been pivotal in maintaining Liverpool’s strong defensive record.
Liverpool will look to extend their winning streak as they face Nottingham Forest this Saturday, followed by their opening Champions League tie against AC Milan the following week. With Alisson and his teammates maintaining their high standards, Liverpool fans will be hopeful for continued success both domestically and in Europe.
