Liverpool and Real Madrid might not be the best of pals, considering recent meet-ups between the two. Most prominently, Los Blancos were the club that stole full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Anfield.
There is also news of the Spanish giants eyeing Reds defender Ibrahima Konaté. However, the Frenchman remains a major piece in the Slot architecture.
Konaté links up with Virgil van Dijk in the centre to guard the heart of defence. The situation is tight considering that the Reds missed out on Marc Guéhi during the summer.
This has raised major concerns regarding the Liverpool defence. With only three senior centre-backs in the Reds squad, the challenge seems difficult for Slot to conquer.
However, the Dutch manager seems relaxed as the club has decided to push the Guéhi campaign to the summer of 2026. This might make things challenging, considering Real Madrid’s parallel interest in the English defender.
Juventus is also on the run, but Arne Slot remains composed. The Liverpool gaffer believes that 18-year-old summer signing Geovanni Leoni solves all the depth problems in Merseyside.
Slot already considers Leoni Premier League-ready and might hand him his debut someday soon. Despite all that, an underlying concern remains with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté, both of whom are regular hospital visitors.

Real Madrid target Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton

The Athletic reports that not only is Real Madrid eyeing their precious defender Ibrahima Konaté and potential target Marc Guéhi, but they are also behind Palace star Adam Wharton.
2026 seems to be the plan for Los Blancos, but the exact window isn’t confirmed. Their interests regarding Guéhi are clear, though the Spanish club would like to finish the deal in January so that no competitors stand a chance.
Madrid are in the market for a new midfielder as they’ve also identified other targets as potential signings. Liverpool, on the other hand, have been reported to be watching the midfielder, but there have been no moves from Slot’s side yet.
Luckily for the Reds, there has been progress going on with Konaté’s agent in the background. In hopes that Real Madrid don’t swoop a major brick in their wall, Liverpool have decided to take the front foot in the discussion.
With the Frenchman also claiming international teammate Kylian Mbappé’s calls, it will be a tricky one for the Merseysiders. For context, Konaté recently joked in an interview about Mbappé calling him every two hours to convince him to sign for Real Madrid.
