Price drop alert for top Liverpool target

Liverpool are almost certain to sign a striker next summer as Arne Slot’s team are in need for a more reliable goalscorer than Darwin Nunez to maintain their level.

Nunez has been getting more starts in Diogo Jota’s absence, but the Uruguayan has not been the Liverpool manager’s preferred option this season.

Liverpool’s recruitment team, led by sporting director Richard Hughes, have been looking at several strikers across Europe and will continue to assess their options in the coming months.

Lille’s Jonathan David and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush are two of the forwards the Reds have been tracking this season as part of their plans.

But by far the most in-form striker in Europe at the moment is Viktor Gyokeres who recently scored a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

However, a move for the attacker has always been considered complicated because of interest from Manchester United and his high release clause.

Sporting Lisbon ready to sell for less than his release clause

Gyokeres is the most feared striker in Europe at the moment and has netted 23 goals in 17 appearances for Sporting Lisbon this season.

The Portuguese champions are expected to sell him and many felt that he would go for the £84m release clause mentioned in his contract.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Sporting Lisbon are prepared to accept a fee less than the exit clause figure in the striker’s current deal.

It has been claimed that Sporting Lisbon expect the bids for him to start at £63m and are set to sell him for somewhere around the £70m mark.

This would be music to Liverpool’s ears who could be one of the busiest teams in the Premier League next summer and need to watch their budget.

However, Ruben Amorim’s impending arrival at Manchester United is going to be Liverpool’s biggest challenge as the Portuguese wants to reunite with Gyokeres at Old Trafford.

Manchester United spent big on Rasmus Hojlund last year but will be keen to impress their new head coach and try to sign Gyokeres for him next summer.
