Liverpool receive massive injury boost ahead of Manchester United clash

The Manchester Evening News reports that the Frenchman will be out for longer than expected and will definitely be sidelined for the game against Liverpool.

Transfermarkt reports that the French forward will return on the 3rd of May which is the day following the game against Liverpool but Manchester Evening News claims it's much direr than that.

There's no confirmation on whether or not the injury will rule him out of the Euros but given it's a ruptured knee ligament, there will be a great deal of concern from the France FA regarding his fitness.

Martial has scored 7 goals and assisted 8 times but he'll be unable to add to his tally any more due to his injury.

From Liverpool's point of view, this is a massive boost due to their poor defensive record in the Premier League this season.

In 33 games, they have conceded 55 goals and given that Manchester United have scored 64, the second-highest in the league, Martial's absence will boost their chances of victory.

Even though Martial hasn't been as prolific as Marcus Rashford or Bruno Fernandes, his finishing can be fantastic.

Nathaniel Phillips is also expected to miss the game which means it's even more fortunate that a forward like the Manchester United no.9 will be absent.

The trip to Old Trafford will be a nervy one for Liverpool fans even though none will be able to attend what is a famous fixture.

So much rests on the next five games for Liverpool which means that United will be relishing the opportunity to put a nail in the coffin for their rivals as far as their Champions League qualification aspirations are concerned.

Jurgen Klopp's men are four points behind Chelsea and one point behind West Ham and will now have to rely on other teams to beat them in order to move back into fourth place.
