Liverpool receive major injury blow ahead of Manchester United clash

Liverpool travel to Old Trafford this weekend in a bid to get their quest for Champions League football back underway but are missing Shaqiri and Phillips.

The Reds are four points behind Chelsea in the Premier League table and although Thomas Tuchel's side will have their focus on reaching the final of the Champions League, staying in the top four is a huge goal for the new boss.

Liverpool will be hoping that they can capitalise on any mistakes that Chelsea and West Ham make but considering that Jurgen Klopp's men have failed to make the most of slip-ups in recent weeks, it seems doubtful.

The Reds have dropped four extremely valuable points to Leeds and Newcastle in their last two games and now face a trip to Manchester United.

Nat Phillips has been missing for the last two Premier League fixtures and I think it's no coincidence that this has seen Liverpool become far more vulnerable aerially. Leeds scored their equaliser in the 87th-minute thanks to a very simple corner that was easily headered home by Diego Llorente.

The ball fell kindly to the Arsenal loanee but he took his chance with open arms and fired home, earning the Magpies a valuable point in their bid to remain above the relegation zone.

Phillips will be missed greatly against Manchester United if he doesn't return to training in time, especially with Harry Maguire's attacking threat at set-pieces.

Xherdan Shaqiri has this week been linked with a move away from the club after it was reported by Football Insider that the Swiss forward has told his agent to find him a new club.

Yesterday, he missed training and is a major doubt to travel with the Liverpool squad to face Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's outfit. He likely wouldn't have started anyway, with just five Premier League stars this season, but it's another option that won't be available to Jurgen Klopp. Origi was also missing.

Joel Matip was pictured on the grass at Kirkby but he wasn't taking part in team training as he is still working his way back to full fitness. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson are all still sidelined and are unlikely to play a part this season.
