Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg waxes lyrical about Jordan Henderson

Tottenham and Denmark star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg says that England's ability to bring Jordan Henderson off the bench underlines their strength in depth.

The Sunderland-born midfielder has been missing from action for Liverpool since February when he underwent surgery on a groin injury.

His absence was just as damaging as Virgil van Dijk's as far as I'm concerned. The skipper might not have the natural talent that the Dutchman does but his leadership and passion are almost tangible.

Henderson was pivotal during the 2019/20 Premier League-winning season and to lose him on top of the injuries at the back was a major blow to Jurgen Klopp's plans.

The German will secretly be very happy that Henderson is not a starter for England this summer but Pierre-Emile Hojberg believes it underlines the Three Lions' incredible squad depth.

"England's squad is fantastic. Their midfield as well and the guys that also aren't playing from the start," he told reporters. "When you are able to bring on a Jordan Henderson, I think it is a big stamp of quality.

"We, Denmark, will try our best to do what it takes to bring the victory on our side but we also know the strengths of England. We have great respect for them and are ready to give them a big, big fight."

England face Denmark in the semi-finals of the EUROs tonight and while Henderson won't be starting, he scored his first-ever international goal against Ukraine to help his country reach the last four.

The passion he demonstrated during his celebration was amazing to see and you best believe that if England finally wins a major tournament this summer, he will be leading the celebrations.

For Liverpool, it's great news that the former Sunderland star is not starting as he's essentially getting a pre-pre-season by featuring for 10-15 minutes at the end of games.

When the tournament ends, he will go on holiday before joining his teammates for pre-season at Kirkby with Ibrahima Konate set to link up with his teammates on Monday.
